Let me share a bit about myself and this interim period. The Search and Call Committee and I have mutually agreed on a one-year commitment, with the understanding that we’ll revisit and evaluate that timeline as the year progresses. As someone who is retired and currently in relatively good health, I hope you’ll understand my desire to enjoy this chapter of life while I am able—even as I offer my full presence and care to this church community.
My office hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M., and I’d love for you to stop by and say hello. I’m also available for home visits—just give me a call and we’ll find a time that works. You may hear from me soon, as I hope to begin visiting with many of you personally.
I’ve served in ministry for 44 years, the last ten of which have been focused on interim ministry. Before that, I taught high school for five years, which also shaped my understanding of people and community in profound ways.
My wife, Diane, and I have two daughters and five grandchildren. You’ll likely meet some of them during upcoming family visits—they’re excited about spending time here with Nanny and Pappah! We will be away on Sunday, May 18, as we travel to Murfreesboro, TN, to celebrate our oldest granddaughter’s high school graduation.
While we won’t be moving our permanent residence to Fort Walton Beach, Diane and I have found a lovely apartment just 2.2 miles from the church. We’re in the process of furnishing it and turning it into a welcoming home-away-from-home. We also share our lives with two spirited little Yorkshire Terriers, Mylo and Brutus. They’re just over a year old and littermates—full of energy and personality, and sure to keep things lively.
Being in the interim between settled pastors is not a time to step back and coast. In fact, it’s often a season of important and sacred work. This is a time for spiritual reflection, earnest prayer as we seek God’s vision for First Christian Church, and intentional efforts to stabilize our finances and attendance.
It’s a time to listen to one another deeply, reconnect with our mission, and prepare for what’s next. That’s the work I’m here to help you do.
I want to see you in church, and I look forward to discovering the heartbeat of this congregation—your passions, your ministries, and your hopes for the future. It is a true honor to walk this season with you, and I’m confident that God will do great things among us.
Grace and peace,
Pastor Cameron
